The Department of Sustainability of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa hosted the third day of the International Meeting RITA (Regional Impact Trade Alliance) this Friday at the Naturklima Foundation for Climate Change, in Donostia. This initiative has brought together over a hundred experts from Europe, Latin America, and other territories worldwide, specializing in ecological transition and circular economy, with the aim of advancing a new international trade model based on positive impact.
The event also featured the participation of around fifty Gipuzkoan companies, who shared experiences and projects related to ecological transition, circular economy, industrial sustainability, energy communities, and business innovation.
The Deputy of Sustainability, José Ignacio Asensio, highlighted that "Gipuzkoa once again demonstrates its capacity to attract talent, generate international alliances, and position itself as a benchmark in sustainability and innovation." He also emphasized that "Naturklima is consolidating itself as a strategic space for driving shared solutions to major global challenges."
The institutional opening of the event included representatives from RITA, ECODES, the Basque Government, and the Department of Sustainability of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa. Subsequently, various policies and projects promoted in Gipuzkoa in the field of ecological transition and sustainable competitiveness were presented.
Among the topics addressed during the day were the ecological transition policies promoted in Gipuzkoa, energy communities and storage, circular economy strategies linked to urban and industrial waste, as well as reference cooperative business models such as Mondragon.
Working groups were also held between institutional representatives, companies, and international agents on areas such as energy, sustainable mobility, tourism, agri-food, industry, and circular economy.
The Department of Sustainability indicated that this international meeting "reinforces Gipuzkoa's positioning as a benchmark territory in sustainability, innovation, and international cooperation, as well as making visible the role of the Gipuzkoan business fabric as a key player in economic and ecological transformation."
The RITA meeting is part of a global alliance of territories that seeks to position regions as "protagonists in building a new, fairer, more sustainable, and collaborative economy." The event continued the 'Declaration from Euskadi. Towards a Global Alliance of Regions and Impact Trade', promoted together with ECODES and other international agents.
