Gipuzkoa has once again recorded one of the highest temperatures in Spain, reaching 29ºC at Hondarribia airport, but the heat is expected to subside from tomorrow.

After several days of suffocating heat, the thermometer will offer a respite starting this Wednesday, following Gipuzkoa once again nearing 30 degrees today. The territory has registered one of the highest temperatures in Spain, experiencing another day more typical of summer than early spring. At Hondarribia airport, temperatures reached 29ºC, a value only surpassed in the Navarrese municipality of Luzaide (29.4ºC), according to data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). The mercury also soared in Irun, where the thermometer showed 27.9 degrees just minutes before four in the afternoon, and in Zumaia, with 27.1ºC at 13:00.
The oppressive heat will begin to subside from tomorrow as the south wind loses strength and shifts to a northerly component from early afternoon. This will help contain maximum temperatures, which according to forecasts could hover around 25ºC in inland Gipuzkoa and 23ºC on the coast, although the atmosphere will remain distinctly spring-like. Clear skies will continue to dominate, despite the appearance of some medium and high clouds, and there is a possibility of haze.
Sunny weather will also be the main feature on Thursday. The sky will be generally clear with some medium and high clouds. On the coast, some low clouds may also appear, and the possibility of fog banks in the early morning cannot be ruled out. The wind will continue to blow from the north, causing a slight drop in minimum and maximum temperatures, especially in coastal areas of Gipuzkoa. Here, the mercury could be around 20 degrees, while inland it will reach 24.
Instability will gain ground as the week progresses, and Friday will start with morning fogs and mists, with increasing cloudiness during the latter hours of the day. The wind will blow lightly from the southeast, although from midday it will settle from the northeast on the coast. Minimum temperatures will remain unchanged or show a slight decrease, while maximums will experience a slight to moderate increase.
