Cider from Gipuzkoa has achieved significant international recognition at the CiderWorld competition, which took place in the German city of Frankfurt. Five producers from the territory were awarded gold and silver medals, showcasing the quality and tradition of Gipuzkoan cider. The event, held from April 16 to 18, featured Gipuzkoa as the guest of honor.
A delegation from Gipuzkoa, comprising representatives from the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, Sagardoaren Lurraldea, and the cider houses Gurutzeta, Zapiain, and Petritegi from Astigarraga, participated in this gathering. According to the provincial deputy for Mobility, Tourism, and Territorial Planning, this participation was “a strategic opportunity to promote the territory internationally as a tourist and gastronomic destination”.
“"This achievement is no coincidence; it is the result of generations of effort, respect for tradition, and a constant commitment to quality and innovation."
The provincial deputy celebrated that “we have once again placed Gipuzkoa on the podium of excellence.” After congratulating the Gipuzkoan producers, she affirmed that the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa will continue “supporting the cider makers and fostering a necessary ecosystem for our cider to continue achieving success beyond our borders.”
Furthermore, the manager of Sagardoaren Lurraldea emphasized that CiderWorld provided an “important stage” to position Gipuzkoa as an international cider benchmark and to promote its rich tourism, gastronomy, and culture. A representative from the Petritegi cider house described the experience as “very beautiful” and noted the great interest shown by the public in the organized activities.
Among the award-winning ciders, Zapiain cider house secured two gold medals for its Zapiain Premium Euskal Sagardoa and Bizi Goxo 2017 ciders.
