The Eibar City Council has organized a tribute event for this Saturday, April 11, in memory of one of the most cherished and remembered figures in the city's cultural sphere. The Legarre recording studios will officially be renamed Walter Tuzzeo Sormen Zentroa, in recognition of the work and legacy of the sound technician, who passed away two years ago and was deeply connected to the musical development of the city and its region.
The institutional ceremony will take place at 11:00 AM at the Legarre facilities themselves, where a commemorative plaque with the center's new name will be unveiled. This event aims to be, in addition to a symbolic gesture, a public acknowledgment of someone who for years was a key player in local cultural life. The Legarre studios, the setting for numerous recordings and creative projects, will thus be forever linked to the name of the person many consider their true soul.
“"It is an act of justice for someone who understood culture as a space for collective encounter and growth."
Walter Tuzzeo was much more than a sound technician. His role transcended the strictly professional to become a reference, support, and stimulus for several generations of musicians and creators. The City Council has emphasized the human and cultural dimension of this recognition. The Councillor for Culture, Andoni Zabala, stated that “it is an act of justice for someone who understood culture as a space for collective encounter and growth”. In this regard, he highlighted that Tuzzeo “not only worked with sound, he cared for people and made it possible for many projects to see the light”.
“"With this new name, we want future generations to know that there was someone here who dedicated his life to promoting local talent."
The Mayor of Eibar, Jon Iraola, expressed similar sentiments, emphasizing the symbolic value of this name change. “With this new name, we want future generations to know that there was someone here who dedicated his life to promoting local talent,” he affirmed. In his opinion, Tuzzeo “represents the best of a cultural tradition that we have always defended in Eibar: work, creativity, and commitment to the city”.
The name change has been driven by the artistic community itself, which wished to keep alive the link between Walter Tuzzeo and the space where he developed a large part of his vocation. For many artists in the region, he was a mentor, a creative accomplice, and a decisive presence in the growth of music in Eibar.
