The Tokixan association was established last September, resulting from the collaboration of various regional stakeholders and institutions, with the aim of influencing food production, consumption, and supply. Now, they have organized a course in Oñati to strengthen the production sector and facilitate the entry of new producers.
Tokixan is the main driver of this initiative, but the Biolur association, which advocates for ecological agriculture; Ekintzakoop, from the field of transformative social economy; and the UPV/EHU and Mondragon University will also participate in the project.
“"We want to promote entrepreneurship and the creation of small productive projects, and encourage them to operate under a cooperative model."
This course is aimed at individuals who wish to develop agroecological projects in the future. Although residents of the region will have priority, the course offering will not be limited to the area. It will combine theoretical and practical aspects, delving into concepts such as food sovereignty, agroecology, and social economy, and covering the agronomic field. Practical training will take place on farms in the region.
The course will run from November 2026 to June 2027, totaling 390 hours (160 theoretical and 230 practical). The registration period will be open from April 15 to June 15, via the website tokixan.eus/formakuntza or by writing to tokixan@tokixan.eus.
Even after the course concludes, the Tokixan project will continue to support students, offering a testing site expected to be operational in 2027 and other resources, such as assistance with land acquisition or machinery. They have taken the Trebatu association from Ipar Euskal Herria as a model.
