The Basque service Berdindu handled 578 requests in 2025, a figure similar to the previous year, with consultations related to sexual and gender identity being the most frequent, as reported by Minister Nerea Melgosa.

Consultations related to sexual and gender identity were the most numerous for the Basque LGTBIQ+ support service, Berdindu, with 222 registered cases in 2025. These were followed by legal inquiries (154), social awareness-raising (129), and educational matters (109).
Berdindu concluded 2025 with 578 demands addressed across Euskadi, a figure very similar to the 590 recorded the previous year. This data confirms the stability of a service already established as a key resource for LGTBIQ+ individuals, families, educational centers, institutions, and social entities.

"This service not only resolves specific doubts but also accompanies processes that extend over time."

Nerea Melgosa · Minister of Welfare, Youth, and Demographic Challenge
As explained by Nerea Melgosa, Minister of Welfare, Youth, and Demographic Challenge, the significant difference lies not so much in the total volume but in the type of attention provided. Case follow-ups increased sharply from 166 to 225 interventions, while initial consultations stood at 353. Support for families also grew, with 77 family interventions and 51 families attended in 2025, compared to 41 the previous year.
In the direct assistance area, the service recorded 226 personal interventions, 77 family-related, 184 from entities, and 91 linked to educational centers. The profile of individuals served shows a strong presence of cis and trans women, with an increasing proportion of trans men. By age, the largest group is between 19 and 30 years old, followed by the 31 to 44 age bracket. Migrants accounted for 19% of personal demands registered during the year.
Activity was evenly distributed across the three territories: 183 demands in Araba, 196 in Bizkaia, and 199 in Gipuzkoa. The telephone remained the primary contact method, with 289 interventions, ahead of email (146) and in-person assistance (123). The Berdindu Ibiltari initiative was launched to bring the service closer to rural areas, although interventions from these regions remain limited.
In the educational field, Berdindu maintained intense activity, conducting 181 workshops with students across the CAV in 2025, involving 3,330 students. Additionally, 75 interventions with teachers and 7 training sessions for families were carried out. Berdindu Formakuntza was also strengthened, expanding its training and awareness-raising offerings to public administrations (municipalities, Basque Government, Osakidetza, EITB) and the private sector. To support this expansion, Berdindu's budget increased by 10%, reaching 503,214 euros.
