The presentation will take place on Thursday, April 16, at 7:00 PM, in the Kripta hall on San Jerónimo street, in Donostia's old town. The event will include a discussion with the author, Asier Basurto Arruti, jointly organized by ARGIA and the Bizilagunekin platform.
In the essay book Turismoa. Desazkundera bidaia, Basurto conducts a deep analysis of the current tourism model and presents reflections in favor of tourist degrowth. The book highlights the negative impacts of tourism on issues such as housing, the environment, employment, and cultural identity, advocating for the need to move towards a different model.
“"We must avoid talking only about saturated days and saturated areas; we need to see what the tourism model touches in the entire social structure."
In the third part of the book, Basurto proposes a roadmap for an alternative model, based on three pillars: resisting the touristification of territories, transforming the tourism sector by reducing its weight in the local economy and ensuring dignified working conditions, and collectively devising a more sustainable holiday model.
Asier Basurto Arruti, the author of the book, has been a member of the Donostia Bizilagunekin citizen group, which advocates for tourist degrowth, since its creation ten years ago. This group promotes actions against the touristification process in Donostia and in favor of a different city model, using data analysis, debate, and mobilization.
