Jesús Magnevy Crowned Basque Champion in Legutio Boxing Tournament

The Zumaia Cuban Boxing fighter secured the elite 60kg title and will now prepare for the Spanish Championship.

Jesús Magnevy emerged victorious as the Basque boxing champion in the elite 60kg category, following his win at the finals held in Legutio.

The sports hall in Legutio (Araba) hosted the finals of the Basque Boxing Championship last Saturday, May 16th. During the event, the Zumaia Cuban Boxing club achieved a significant result with Jesús Magnevy's victory in the elite 60kg category. Magnevy was thus declared the Basque champion for 2026 after triumphing in his final bout.
The head of the Zumaia-based club, Ruben Arredondo, expressed high satisfaction with the preparation efforts: "We put in excellent technical and tactical work to secure the victory and elevate Jesus to the highest level." The club members are very pleased with the outcome achieved in the Legutio ring and have already begun preparations for the season's next major challenge: the Spanish Championship, scheduled for next July.

Furthermore, Zumaia will host another major boxing event on June 13th, when the Aitzuri fronton will stage a new gala organized by the club. Five boxers from Zumaia Cuban Boxing are set to participate, including locals Iñaki Lope, competing in the 70kg category, and Iker Fernández, who will fight in the junior 59kg category. The event will feature several notable bouts and aims to reintroduce the sport to the local audience.
