The eremuak program has inaugurated its fourth collective exhibition at the GUATA building in Zalla, celebrating fifteen years of trajectory and exploring the production and socialization processes of contemporary art. Initiated in 2010, the program's main objective is to identify the needs and discourses present in artistic practices and foster related debates.
Following the tradition of collective exhibitions previously organized by eremuak at Artium Museum (2014), Azkuna Zentroa (2018), and CICC Tabakalera (2022), the current one is located in the GUATA building. This exhibition incorporates fifteen years of program experience and the reflections gathered in the 2024 workshops “E(sx)oterismoak, llegar a lo público” and the magazine eremuak#11, analyzing the complex relationships and multiple channels through which art publicly occurs.
The selection of artists for this exhibition was made through an open call. The jury comprised the eremuak technical commission and curator and writer Chus Martínez. Participating artists include: Iker Abascal (Barakaldo, 2005), Flx. Javier Larreina Morales (Vitoria-Gasteiz, 1999), Samuel Martin Schick (Donostia, 1999), Irune Merino (Anoeta, 2003), Izar Ocariz (New York, 2003), Ece Powell (Río de Janeiro, Brazil, 2002), Izai Rodríguez (Leoz, 2004), Stefano Santa María (Lima, Peru, 1995), and Leire Sáenz Quevedo (Zalla, 1999), as exhibition coordinator.
For the realization of this exhibition, the eremuak commission has collaborated with the Ayto. de Zalla, offering resources and support to provide artists with an extended and territorialized workspace. Additionally, the eremuak workshops have been organized to promote the socialization of contemporary art and foster exchange among artists, critics, curators, and the public of different generations.
Leire Sáenz Quevedo has undertaken the coordination tasks, with support from Héctor Yerbes (cultural technician of the Zalla City Council) and the eremuak technical commission. The exhibition process took place at the GUATA building, with artists working there from July to October, and a workshop led by Snejanka Mihaylova and Leire Vergara defining the methodology.
