Osakidetza will reorganize healthcare services for residents of the Cruces, Lutxana, and Burtzeña neighborhoods, progressively transferring consultations, tests, and procedures to the Cruces University Hospital. The aim is to provide more accessible and better-coordinated care between Primary Care and hospital services.
This reorganization aligns with a commitment from the Basque Government's Department of Health and is already being implemented in many services. Currently, Cruces University Hospital handles 85% of emergencies, 66% of hospitalizations, 54% of outpatient consultations and complementary tests, 100% of home hospitalization, 65% of day hospital services, and 59% of operating rooms for this population.
The first pilot program will commence with Internal Medicine starting November 2nd. Subsequently, services such as Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine, Ophthalmology, and cataract surgery will be progressively integrated, expected to be completed within the first half of 2027.
Osakidetza briefed the Cruces Patients Association on this process during a meeting last Friday, where the implementation calendar and measures for an orderly transition were detailed.
Additionally, mammograms for the breast cancer screening program for women in Enkarterri have also been conducted at Cruces University Hospital since October 5th.
