What initially seemed like a routine session at the Sopuerta Town Hall has garnered widespread attention across Bizkaia, following the release of a video depicting high tension between Mayor Félix Agustín Cuadrado and the municipal comptroller.

The plenary session of the Sopuerta Town Hall, initially expected to be a standard proceeding, has captured the attention of all Bizkaia. A video recorded during the last plenary meeting revealed a moment of intense tension between Mayor Félix Agustín Cuadrado and the municipal comptroller, who questioned how the EH Bildu governing team was managing subsidies.
The publication of several fragments of this session from the Vizcayan municipality on social media has once again highlighted the delicate situation facing the council. It is worth noting that, in early April, the EAJ-PNV had already denounced the “partisan” use of the Town Hall’s social media channels.
The video shows a clear contrast between the technical explanation of the comptroller, who attempts to detail legal concerns regarding the subsidy procedure, and the reaction of the Governing team. While the official maintains a professional tone to warn about the status of the files, the session quickly devolves into shouts and reproaches that prevent a calm debate. This “loss of decorum,” as noted by EAJ-PNV in a press release, becomes tangible when the mayor attempts to refute the technical warnings. The visual tension of the video reinforces the opposition’s complaint about the lack of clear answers, transforming what should have been an administrative clarification into a viral altercation.

During the plenary session, the municipal comptroller raised serious doubts about the way certain subsidies are being processed and justified.

The Sopuerta jeltzale party reacted with indignation after the altercation, describing the management of public resources as “deficient” and opaque. The PNV warns of the serious consequences that this administrative lack of control is having for residents and local associations. The jeltzale party explained that “the attitude of the mayor during the session did not help to calm the waters, as, far from clarifying the situation, the mayor avoided giving concrete answers to the questions raised,” which, in their opinion, demonstrates a lack of rigor inappropriate for his position.
The most critical point of the complaint focuses on the damage caused to the social fabric of the municipality. The PNV warns that the problem goes beyond political formalities and directly affects the finances of cultural and sports groups in Sopuerta. “Poor management is directly affecting associations, which are being forced to return significant amounts of money,” the party stated with concern.
For the opposition, it is unacceptable for local entities to bear the brunt of the EH Bildu governing team’s errors. In this regard, they have firmly defended that “associations perform fundamental work for the municipality and cannot be harmed by deficient subsidy management.” Therefore, they have demanded guarantees that public aid reaches those who are entitled to it appropriately, insisting that institutional functioning must finally be based on “respect, control, and accountability.”
