Enkarterri, Meatzaldea, and Ezkerraldea have a new sustainable mobility system this week called ENKbike.

The service, promoted by the development association Enkartur, starts with an initial fleet of one hundred electric bicycles, aiming to transform the territory's connectivity and tourism model with funding from the European Union's Next Generation funds.
Charging and docking stations have been strategically placed in Abanto-Zierbena, Balmaseda, Barakaldo, Karrantza, Ortuella, and Muskiz, enabling both residents and visitors to move cleanly and efficiently.
The pedal-assist technology makes these bikes ideal for navigating the area's topography and facilitating intermodality with other public transport networks, connecting key heritage and landscape resources.
The service is managed entirely digitally via the official ENKbike app (available for iOS and Android). Users must register to open a station and unlock a bike. Operating hours are from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with vehicles to be returned the same day.
There are two rental options: a half-day option for 16 euros (9:00-14:30 or 15:30-21:00) and a full-day option for 28 euros (9:00-21:00). Reservations can be made up to a month in advance through the app.
To use ENKbike, users must be over 18 years old and always wear a helmet when riding outside urban areas.
Alfonso San Vicente, president of Enkartur, stated that the service will reinforce the commitment to environmentally friendly tourism. The ENKbike app will also integrate geolocated routes and provide information on local museums and natural spaces, aligning with the Regional Strategic Plan.
