Registration will be open until June 15, with a maximum capacity of twenty participants. A minimum of ten students will be required to launch the course. Biolur, Ekintzakoop, Mondragon University, and the University of the Basque Country (EHU) have collaborated in the course's design, alongside sector experts and organizations.
The course will consist of two main parts. The first, an introductory section, will cover food sovereignty, agroecology, and transformative social economy. Sessions will be held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons in November, in Bergara, from 3:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
The second part will be theoretical-practical. Theoretical foundations will be covered in Oñati from January to March on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and on Fridays from March to June, from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Practical sessions will take place in local farmsteads starting in March, from Monday to Thursday.
The curriculum will include topics such as agroecological horticulture, soil management, biodiversity, regenerative agriculture, seed multiplication, cooperativism, community marketing, economic viability, and regulations. The full course fee is 150 euros, while the introductory course alone costs 50 euros.
The project coordinator, Mikel Roman Larrabe, explained that "the main goal is for this course to facilitate the path for anyone who wants to become a producer in agriculture in the future." He highlighted the significant decline in agricultural producers in Debagoiena, particularly in vegetable production, and stated that this initiative aims to address that need.
Roman added that the course will combine two areas: a more agronomic one related to production, and a more economic one focused on creating a business or project. The agroecological model and transformative social economy will be the foundation. Furthermore, participants will receive follow-up support to help them take the installation step.
Tokixan will offer follow-up, mentoring, a testing space, and other resources for agricultural installation. Among the project's objectives are promoting collaboration among producers and sharing resources. Registration can be completed via the Tokixan website or by writing to tokixan@tokixan.eus.
