Organized by Izar Records and supported by the Durango City Council, this competition serves as a unique showcase for bands from the region. A total of 40 groups have registered, with 30 successfully meeting the minimum quality standards required for participation, highlighting the high level of the contest.
One of the strengths of the competition is its stylistic diversity, with proposals ranging from various rock subgenres (hard, punk, stoner) to metal, pop, and funk. Linguistic variety is also notable, as 14 bands have chosen Basque for their compositions, 12 use Spanish, 5 combine both languages, and 4 use Basque and English. Additionally, two instrumental groups are also participating.
The contest will feature 10 live concerts, taking place between May and July 2026. Each event will include three bands sharing the stage, offering the audience a fresh and diverse selection of contemporary music. The concerts will be held in different neighborhoods and venues across Durango, fostering local participation and bringing music closer to all corners of the town.
The grand finale is scheduled for September, coinciding with the Goienkale festivities. The prizes have been designed to offer winners a genuine opportunity for professional development. Among the main awards, recordings at Izar Records, a benchmark in the local music industry, stand out. The first grand prize includes the recording of a 10-song LP, the second an EP of 5 songs, and the best band from Durangaldea will win a concert at the San Fausto 2026 festivities, 600 euros, and the recording of a single. Special awards for best staging and best sound will also be presented.
