Stage director Mertxe Salaberri has stated that the objective behind the creation of the Kantuz Lyric Association is "to innovate". "The intention is for the audience to see in this year's zarzuela performance the start of a new era; to prepare a different kind of show", she explained. The 45 members forming the group are deeply involved in rehearsals, with preparations underway for the last weekend of November.
The association has explained that the new names aim to reflect a time for undertaking and expanding new projects, while preserving the journey and essence built over the years. Along with this new phase, a completely renewed image, a new logo, and an evolution of the repertoire will arrive, with the goal of exploring new proposals, expanding into new areas, and continuing to bring the lyrical genre closer to the public.
Kantuz has chosen Federico Chueca's El año pasado por agua, with a libretto by Ricardo de la Vega, to mark the beginning of this new stage. This proposal brings innovation to the group's usual repertoire and is characterized by its excellent music, cheerful nature, and a particularly participatory feel.
Musical direction will be handled by Cristina Cubillo, and Mertxe Salaberri will take charge of the stage direction. "Zarzuela does not say goodbye; it renews itself", they stated, adding that the best way to demonstrate this will once again be on stage. Kantuz takes over from the initiative that has successfully made zarzuela an anticipated event in Arrasate's cultural calendar and looks forward, with new ideas and new members, driven by the desire to continue growing and evolving.
The association aims to strengthen its connection with the audience during this new phase. "If there is one thing Kantuz wishes to maintain in this new phase, it is the bond with the public. The loyalty, affection, and year-on-year presence at the Amaia Antzokia have been essential in making this journey possible", they recalled. Kantuz wishes to dedicate this new beginning specifically to those who have accompanied zarzuela and to those who will attend for the first time.
