The Minister of Sustainable Mobility, Susana Garcia Chueca, accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Miguel Angel Paez, and the Director General of ETS, Antonio Lopez, visited the Kontxa railway infrastructure this morning. After inspecting the urbanization works initiated last week on Loiola and San Martin streets, they entered the underground from the Loiola access to observe the terminal's panorama and various crews working.
With the technical aspects completed, the electrical installations, ventilation, and signaling systems are now being assembled. At the Kontxa station, while the Loiola tunnel is nearly finished, escalators and a glass-tempered cladding are being installed at Xabier Zubirirenean.
Meanwhile, at the Amara station, with the civil works and the Autonomia tunnel finished, a temporary emergency exit will be established from the Errondo tunnel. This terminal already has the main electrical equipment, lighting systems, fire protection systems, and luminaires installed.
Finally, at the Bentaberri station, only finishing touches remain. The lighting system and fire protection systems are completed in the tunnel, the terminal itself, and the emergency exits. All catenary supports are also mounted. Ventilation equipment is yet to be installed under the platform and for emergencies, but the material is already on site.
“"It is a work and a service designed for the next hundred years, and it will change the mobility of Gipuzkoa connected through sustainable public transport."
The minister highlighted that these 4.2 kilometers of underground passage and three new stations will not only connect the city differently but also allow for increased frequency, with trains running every seven and a half minutes between Añorga and Pasaia. She also described it as a "symbol" of the future of Gipuzkoa. She added that, thanks to the burying of the Topo line, significant square meters have been gained for pedestrians.
