Durango City Council is moving forward with the Tabira Kirolgunea renovation project, guaranteeing the summer pools will open by mid-June, with new facility construction set to begin after the summer.

The Durango City Council remains committed to modernizing and improving the municipality's sports infrastructure through the Tabira Kirolgunea project, a key initiative of this legislative term. Work is progressing according to the planned schedule, and the summer pools are expected to open normally by mid-June.
Iker Txertudi, the Sports Councilor, visited the site and confirmed the progress of the works. Following the initial phases of demolishing dilapidated buildings, such as the old indoor pool and the multi-court changing rooms, the new filtration room is currently under construction, a critical component for the future operation of the complex.

"We are renovating spaces that have become obsolete over the years, with the aim of offering modern and accessible facilities for everyone."

One of the project's priorities has been to ensure the use of the facilities during the summer season. In this regard, the Council has assured that the summer pools will be operational in June, as is customary each year. To achieve this, actions directly affecting their opening are being prioritized, balancing construction work with the regular use of the premises.
New construction phases, including changing rooms and a future cafeteria, will commence in October, after the summer, to minimize disruption to users. During this season, modular changing rooms will remain in use, with additional spaces also being set up at the football field to enhance service. Concurrently, in May, improvements will be made to other areas of the complex, such as renovating the playground's surface and the football field's netting, thereby reinforcing facility safety. The renovation of Tabira Kirolgunea will unfold in several phases until 2027 and will include, in addition to the new changing rooms and cafeteria, a renovated multi-court and a new football field.
