Durango will become the main venue for the Musikaldia festival in 2028, organized by the Association of Music and Dance Schools of the Basque Country.

Durango will host the Musikaldia festival in 2028, organized by the Association of Music and Dance Schools of the Basque Country. The baton was passed to the mayor of Durango, Mireia Elkoroiribe, at the event's closing ceremony, which this year took place in Legazpi (Gipuzkoa).
For Elkoroiribe, receiving the Musikaldia baton is a "great honor." The mayor highlighted that Durango possesses a key element to ensure success: "the musical tradition, the passion for music, and our school, the Bartolomé Ertzilla Music School, which works with dedication to ensure music continues to be a cultural, educational, and social agent." She also acknowledged the efforts of Iker Ruiz de Alegria, the music school's director, and his entire team, noting that this gathering will be "an opportunity to bring this experience, talent, and musical emotions closer to Bizkaia."
This year's Musikaldia was held in Legazpi, bringing together approximately 1,700 musicians and dancers. Representatives from 34 music and dance schools across the Basque Autonomous Community participated, inviting citizens to enjoy the richness of Basque culture and "strengthening the ties between schools and the community." This event was organized by the Doinua Music School, with the collaboration of the Legazpi City Council and the support of the Department of Education of the Basque Government.
