The Bidezabal tracks in Durango will serve as the venue for the Basque Athletics Championship this weekend, June 6th and 7th. More than 600 athletes in the absolute category will compete across 44 disciplines.

The Durango tracks are a benchmark in Basque athletics and have therefore been chosen to host this championship. "The Durango track is a reference point in Euskadi. It is the athletics track that hosts the most championships, without a doubt," explained Juan Ignacio Hernandez, president of Bidezabal.
The competition will take place over two days. On Saturday, sessions will be held in the afternoon, from 3:30 PM to 8:10 PM. On Sunday, the activity will be in the morning, from 9:00 AM to 12:50 PM.
Several regional athletes will also compete. Representing the Bidezabal club, Julene Bouzo from Ermua (in high jump) and Paula Redondo from Bizkaia (in javelin throw) are the main contenders for gold medals, both holding this year's best marks.

This championship will not only serve to decide the best in Euskadi but is also the most important event for forming the Basque team; in fact, it will be used to determine the squad that will participate in the Spanish Championship of autonomous communities to be held on June 27th in Logroño.

This championship is organized by the Bidezabal athletics club and the Basque Federation, with the sponsorship of the Durango City Council and Rural Kutxa, and the collaboration of the Mancomunidad.
Mireia Elkoroiribe, the mayor of Durango, highlighted the work done by Bidezabal in promoting athletics since its founding in 1982. "From the City Council, we want to congratulate Bidezabal for its trajectory and thank it for continuing to support athletics, Durango, and its youth development," she stated.
