The Amorebieta-Etxano City Council has launched a new Participatory Budgets process, through which residents can directly participate in preparing the municipal budget and propose projects to enhance the town. Under the slogan "Arkalaz", the council aims to strengthen citizen collaboration and create spaces for listening and participation to continue building the future together.
This process seeks to foster a more accessible, transparent administration that is open to citizen contributions. As in previous editions, resident proposals will be collected and activities that can be incorporated into the municipal budget will be analyzed. A new feature this year is the focus on the municipality's three main challenges: a vibrant town with a strong economy, a green and sustainable municipality, and a cohesive, egalitarian, and Basque-speaking municipality.
Mayor Ainhoa Salterain emphasized, "Citizen participation is a fundamental tool for understanding the needs, concerns, and ideas of our residents firsthand. We want to continue building a better municipality, and to do that, we must do so by listening and working alongside our citizens." The mayor added, "Arkalaz represents that way of understanding municipal management: working together, sharing goals, and uniting the vision of all the people who are part of Amorebieta-Etxano."
The ideas and projects submitted by citizens must be linked to one of the three main challenges: vibrant town and strong economy (related to coexistence, public spaces, promotion of local commerce and hospitality, creation of meeting spaces, equality, and the Basque language); green municipality and sustainable mobility (ideas on the green ring, improving sustainable mobility, renewable energy, green spaces); and cohesive, egalitarian, and Basque-speaking municipality (proposals to address the demographic challenge, improve well-being and care, adapt the municipality to new population needs, and create cultural and sports spaces).
Informative brochures will be delivered to homes in Amorebieta-Etxano on September 21st. The deadline for submitting proposals is October 13th, and they can be submitted via an online form or by leaving questionnaires in designated mailboxes at the Town Hall and Zelaieta Zentroa. Additionally, dynamic information points and street activities will be held on October 1st and 8th in Zelaieta to clarify doubts and encourage participation.
