The Álava Provincial Council has decided to ban the Berredo camps and sanction the Sarrea Euskal Udalekua association. The association has been charged with two serious administrative offenses: failing to report on the camps and not disseminating information. Consequently, Sarrea has been fined €9,000 and banned for three years from both organizing activities for minors and receiving subsidies.
A total of 21 families have filed criminal complaints regarding alleged sexual abuse of minors, and the judicial processes are ongoing. Ana del Val, the Deputy for Culture and Sport, explained that the file is final and that the council has strictly adhered to the legal deadlines. According to her, the sanctions are "necessary and proportionate" because Sarrea has repeatedly failed to communicate the activity to the administration. Furthermore, she stated that there will be no camps this summer and that the Provincial Youth Organization will not grant permission for the camps planned from July 1st to 15th.
The Council has also invalidated the proposal submitted by the cultural association Dorrekoa, concluding that the entity is not an independent third party. According to Del Val, the Dorrekoa and Sarrea associations share the same organizational and communication network, and therefore, Dorrekoa's request is an "attempt at legal fraud" to circumvent Sarrea's disqualification. For this reason, the submitted communication is not valid, and the activity cannot be carried out under any circumstances.
The Council has also warned that if Dorrekoa or Sarrea attempt to organize camps, they would face direct responsibilities and closure or eviction measures could be imposed. The Euskal Udalekuak network, for its part, has expressed its concern and distress on social media, and has defended that they have met all legal requirements.
