Durango's Tabira swimming pools will open in June despite ongoing construction.

The Durango City Council has announced that the Tabira swimming pools will open by mid-June, despite ongoing construction, to serve the more than 49,000 users who enjoyed them last year.

The Durango City Council has confirmed that the Tabira swimming pools will open their doors by mid-June, as is customary, despite significant modernization work carried out at the facilities in recent months. The opening had raised doubts among opposition parties and users, as a large part of the complex has been demolished and excavators are a common sight.
The Sports Councilor, Iker Txertudi, visited the construction site of Tabira Kirolgunea, one of the government team's key projects for this legislature, aimed at modernizing and improving the municipality's sports infrastructure. Txertudi stated that the works are progressing according to the planned schedule, with initial phases already completed and the construction of a new filtration room underway.

"The works, which began with the demolition of buildings in poor condition, including the indoor pool and multi-court changing rooms, are following the planned schedule and progressing at a good pace. To date, the initial phases have been completed, and work is underway on the construction of a new filtration room, which will allow progress towards creating modern, functional, and accessible facilities."

However, the definitive changing rooms, a goal of Mayor Mireia Elkoroiribe and a demand from users, will not be ready for this season. Municipal sources have indicated that the construction of the new changing rooms and cafeteria will begin in October, after the summer season ends, to avoid interference with the use of the facilities.
This year, and for the last time, users will have modular changing facilities. As an improvement, several changing rooms at the football field will be adapted to offer showers, with a specific access for this purpose. In May, the new flooring for the pool swings and the football field net will be installed, ensuring safety and enjoyment.
The transformation of Tabira Kirolgunea is one of the Durango City Council's major commitments to provide the municipality with top-tier sports infrastructure that meets the current and future needs of citizens and local clubs. The renovation will be carried out in several phases and will be progressively completed between this year and the next, including a new multi-court, cafeteria, and football field.
