The Euskal Jaiak cesta punta tournament in Durango has advanced significantly, with the qualifying teams for the next phase now determined after a series of intense matches.

The competition is proceeding at a good pace, and the latest matches at the Ezkurdi Jai-Alai fronton delivered thrilling contests. The top two teams from this preliminary phase will move on to the next stage of the competition, serving as a prelude to the final phase. The tournament began on April 11 with 18 young puntista pairs, and now only four remain, who will compete for the two available spots in the next round.
In the recent matches, the duo of Haitz-Oinatz Garitagoitia (Gernika-Markina) defeated local players Andoni and Ibon Alonso, from Vitoria-Gasteiz. Subsequently, Txanton and Belar (Markina-Durango) were overcome by Gamarra V-Kirmen Etxaburu (Berriozar-Markina). As a result, the two players from Durango participating that day were eliminated from the competition.
The day also saw Galder-Alonso (Durango-Gasteiz) triumph over Lekue-Lizarraga (Berriatua-Tolosa). Sources from the Duja club highlighted that “the local player Galder was accompanied by a very solid Alonso; therefore, we will have Durango representation in the final round of this preliminary phase.” In the last match of this phase, local players Urreta and Izei Garita could not overcome Alain-Ontoria (Gernika-Noain).
There will be no matches this Saturday, and the competition will resume on Sunday at 10:30 AM. Following the children's exhibition matches, the rescheduled games will feature Txanton-Belar (replacing Haitz-Oinatz, who withdrew despite qualifying) against Gamarra V-Kirmen, and the second match will pit Galder-Alonso against Alain-Ontoria.
