The Errenteria City Council has suspended the activities of the Xenpelar Bertso Eskola to ensure the safety of its students, following allegations of misogynistic behavior and aggression by a teacher.

The Errenteria City Council has suspended the activities of the Xenpelar Bertso Eskola, describing it as an "essential measure to guarantee the safety and well-being of its students and families." This decision follows complaints lodged by the school itself, Bertsozale Elkartea, the Oreretako Mugimendu Feminista, and the Oiartzungo Feministen Asanblada regarding alleged misogynistic conduct and aggressions by a teacher at the Errenteria bertsos school.
The complaining entities have organized a demonstration for tomorrow, Saturday, at 12:30 PM in the Plaza de los Fueros, which the City Council will also join. The council has not ruled out further measures.
In a joint statement, these groups claim that the teacher, "taking advantage of his position," has engaged in "aggression and misogynistic behavior" both within the school and "beyond the world of bertso." They lament that these "are not isolated incidents," as he was previously reported for misogynistic violence in 2018 at Bertsozale Elkartea. At that time, an agreement was reached with the alleged aggressor to distance himself from the formal and informal spheres of bertsolarism to ensure a safe environment.
However, these measures began to break down in 2024. In response, Bertsozale Elkartea activated its Internal Protocol for managing cases of Misogynistic Violence, and the teacher signed a document acknowledging the facts and committing to previous objectives.
Nevertheless, in 2026, further accusations of "sexual assault and psychological harassment" have been made against him within the Xenpelar Bertso Eskola de Orereta. The associations believe that "such conduct is practically impossible without protection from their environment and that, in some way, their accomplices have also permitted" these actions.
The Errenteria City Council also stated that "the aggressor is not the only one who has failed to meet the commitments made with Bertsozale Elkartea." The entity had informed a member of the Bertso Eskola's management about the conversation held with the aggressor. Therefore, according to the council, the aggressor's failure to comply with these commitments was "because he had the support of that member to continue his activity linked to the Bertso Eskola."
In light of these events, the City Council has decided to suspend "the activity of Bertso Eskola, as an essential measure to guarantee the safety and well-being of its students and families." Necessary resources will be activated in the coming days.
