The Usurbil City Council has decided to cancel the 'Goazen Kalera' walk on June 23rd due to the high temperatures. The summer program will continue.

The "Goazen Kalera" initiative, aimed at making Usurbil a more caring town, has had to cancel its walk scheduled for this Tuesday, June 23rd, due to the current heatwave. The City Council made this decision after analyzing and approving a series of recommendations and measures in an emergency meeting involving several departments, in response to the ongoing alerts.
Specifically, measures concerning "outdoor activities, those for the most vulnerable individuals, and occupational risks" were examined. Regarding the most vulnerable people, the City Council determined that the "Goazen Kalera" session on June 23rd would not take place, as there would be no suitable conditions for the walk.
The City Council, in collaboration with various stakeholders, intends to continue these walks. Barring any changes, the next event will be on Tuesday, June 30th, touring the town center. Subsequent walks, extending throughout the summer, are also planned, typically held on Tuesdays between 10:30 AM and 12:00 PM. These will be shorter walks, with an opportunity for coffee afterwards in a social setting.
Organizers released the calendar for these healthy walks at the beginning of the year, and this year they will extend until August. This initiative was created to alleviate the loneliness that the closure or reduced hours of various services during the summer can cause for the elderly. In addition to offering the Artzabal Day Care service in August, the care ecosystem's service team proposed a short weekly walk and a chat over coffee, which was well-received, with about 35 residents participating. Therefore, with a positive assessment of the initiative, it has been decided to repeat it this year, and even without students, the weekly summer appointments are already set in the calendar.
These walks are directed at the entire town and are free of charge, with no prior registration required. "Goazen kalera, Usurbil" aims not only to promote physical exercise but also to foster intergenerational connections and encourage mutual care and relationships, according to the organizers.
