The Udalsarea 2030 network has released its activity report for the first half of 2026, analyzing the network's milestones and its municipalities' progress in their commitment to climate and energy sustainability.

According to the report, 226 municipalities, 23 regional entities, and 11 supramunicipal entities make up Udalsarea 2030. All of them continue to advance in climate and energy sustainability.
Specifically, it has been found that 140 municipalities already have or are developing their Climate and Energy Plan: 69 have approved it and 71 are in process. Adherence to the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy is also progressing: 51 have already joined and 8 are in process. Regarding this European initiative, 50 town councils attended an informative webinar in February.
The energy transition and climate change will be the main focus of the network's work in the coming years. In this regard, Udalsarea 2030 has taken significant steps, as indicated by the work done to submit a proposal called Life NaturSarea to the LIFE 2026 call, composed of a consortium involving 5 regional entities from the network, aiming to implement 14 Nature-Based Solutions across the territory.
In addition to climate change, technical aspects related to waste management have also been addressed. In April, an informational session was held on the creation of municipal asbestos inventories, and more than fifty local entities attended training courses on this topic in June and July. Currently, 85 municipalities have a municipal asbestos inventory (26 in Álava, 35 in Bizkaia, and 24 in Gipuzkoa).
