The renowned Petritegi Sagardotegia has marked its 500th anniversary in Astigarraga with a popular festival open to local residents. This event served as a gesture of thanks for the support, affection, and complicity received over five centuries of shared history.
According to the Otaño family, who own the establishment, «Reaching 500 years is only possible when deep roots exist. Ours are in Astigarraga and in the people who have accompanied our journey generation after generation. This celebration was our way of saying thank you».
The celebration also included the inauguration of Petritegi's new marquee, a space debuting with this event and set to be a highlight of the summer season, leading into the traditional sardine festival period.
The day began with a welcome from Ioritz Otaño, a member of the family's sixth generation. Attendees then enjoyed the season's first sardine feast, offered exceptionally for the occasion. The event also featured a musical performance by DJ Mario Azurza, a children's area, commemorative giveaways, and a photographic exhibition tracing the historical relationship between Astigarraga and Petritegi.
Hundreds of attendees enjoyed a festive afternoon filled with reunions and a great atmosphere. The 500th-anniversary commemorative photo booth and two mobile txotx (cider taps) installed for the event were popular attractions. The photographic exhibition was well-received, allowing many to recall shared experiences.
Through this initiative, Petritegi aimed to highlight its half-millennium connection to the territory, built on the pillars of family, land, and time.
