Osakidetza and the Basque Government's Department of Health have initiated the vaccination campaign against influenza and COVID-19 in Euskadi. The presentation event took place this morning at the Alde Zaharra health center in Donostia, highlighting the importance of Primary Care and its professionals.
The campaign's slogan, “Cuidarte también es cuidar. Vacúnate” (Caring for yourself is also caring for others. Get vaccinated), underscores that vaccination protects individual health as well as the well-being of families, caregivers, and the most vulnerable. Approximately 4,000 Osakidetza professionals are involved.
The Vice-Minister of Health, Gontzal Tamayo, stressed the essential role of health centers and their staff, particularly nurses, doctors, and administrative personnel, who not only administer doses but also identify those who can benefit most, address concerns, organize appointments, and provide support throughout the process.
A key new feature this year is the expansion of txertogunes (vaccination points) to all three territories, allowing walk-in access. These centers will operate from October 19th to November 1st, offering vaccines for flu, COVID-19, and childhood immunizations. In Gipuzkoa, the Gros health center in Donostia, along with centers in Arrasate, Beasain, Eibar, Irun, and Tolosa, will have extended hours.
The campaign primarily targets individuals aged 60 and over, children between 6 and 59 months, pregnant women, people with chronic illnesses or immunosuppression, residents of institutionalized settings, healthcare and social care professionals, and caregivers.
The Department of Health and Osakidetza are making a special appeal to healthcare and social care professionals to get vaccinated, safeguarding their own health and that of their patients. Individuals over 80 years old will be contacted by phone to assist with appointment scheduling.
This initiative aligns with the objectives of the Basque Health Pact, focusing on strengthening prevention, health promotion, and Primary Care, with a citizen-centered approach.
