The 5th Family March of Lasarte-Oria will take place this Sunday, prior to the start of the intense San Pedro festivities. This initiative, organized by Lasarte-Oria Trail Mendi Elkartea Kirol Kluba and sponsored by the local council, offers a unique opportunity to enjoy the natural environment with family, friends, and neighbors. Organizers emphasize that it is not a race, but rather a shared walk.
This year, the march features a significant novelty: the opportunity to ascend Mount Buruntza. This mountain is one of the most well-known landmarks in the area and is particularly appreciated by local hikers. The circular route will cover 12.5 kilometers with an accumulated elevation gain of 445 meters, reaching the summit of Buruntza (441 meters).
Participants will receive their participation cards between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM next to the Antonio Mercero space. The organization reminds attendees to check the participant list before collecting their card. Throughout the march, volunteers, organization staff, and a medical team will provide support at the start, finish, and at the control point on Buruntza.
At the refreshment point, located at the Azkorte hermitage, water, fruit, nuts, and sweets will be offered. The first refreshment stop will be at kilometer 4.5 (outbound), and the second at kilometer 7.5 (return).
Upon completion of the march, a small lunch will be provided to regain strength in a festive and family atmosphere, and gifts will be distributed among all participants. Officials remind attendees that it is mandatory to present their previously stamped card at the control point on Buruntza.
Given the high temperatures expected for tomorrow, LOTME (Lasarte-Oria Trail Mendi Elkartea) reminds participants of useful measures to prevent heatstroke: use high-factor sunscreen, especially for children; wear sunglasses and a hat; drink water (2 liters) frequently, even if not thirsty; avoid sugary drinks or industrial juices; carry cut fruit in a container; wear breathable, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing; take breaks in shaded areas; and adapt the walking intensity to the pace of the youngest child.
The Lasarte-Oria City Council, through the Tratu On Bat brand, has once again supported this initiative, a collaboration that allows "to continue promoting activities that foster healthy habits, contact with nature, and intergenerational coexistence".
