Flames began to consume the bonfire around four in the morning, according to the Gaztaño Festival Commission. "We don't know who could have done it, but it seems clear it was intentional, as nothing like this had happened on previous nights," they stated.
Municipal police arrived first, followed by firefighters who contained the flames by wetting the surrounding area. "We are grateful because we believe they did a perfect job," they highlighted. The fire burned for approximately two hours before leaving the entire area in ashes.

The bonfire was originally scheduled for June 27, as it could not be lit on June 23 due to high temperatures. "We wanted to have a small celebration among neighbors, something humble but local, and in the end, we won't be able to do it," said the Neighborhood Association. "It was an opportunity to use the wood and not leave it in the mountains."
Despite the scare, the commission emphasized that next year "we will return with our traditional celebration."
