The Errenteria Music Band, part of the Errenteria Musical Culture Association (EMKE), is set to perform its fourth concert of the 2026 season this Sunday, April 19, at 12:30 PM at Koldo Mitxelena Ikastetxea. This event marks the band's return following the successful Disko-Band show, which attracted a large audience to its previous performance.
The concert was initially scheduled to take place at the Residencia de Nuestro Sagrado Corazón in the Gabierrota neighborhood, as part of the Zaharrak Berri series. However, an ongoing labor dispute at the center has necessitated relocating the performance to its usual venue. Despite the change, the program will retain some of the repertoire originally designed for that special occasion.
Under the artistic direction of Aitor Mitxelena Rubio, the concert will commence with the pasodoble Nuestras Bandas de Música by composer Francisco Andreu. It will feature an eclectic repertoire combining popular pieces and classical works, including Amapola and El año pasado por agua, alongside adaptations of film scores such as Aladdin by composer Alan Menken, and arrangements like ABBA Gold, based on compositions by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus.
The organizers emphasize that this concert will also serve as a prelude to Musikaste 2026, one of the most significant events on the local musical calendar. Following this event, the band will embark on its traditional summer cycle, which includes a percussion-focused concert within the Gure Bakarlariak program, scheduled for July, and a closing performance as part of the Atlantikaldia festival.
According to EMKE itself, the 2026 season is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious in recent years, with a program that blends classical repertoire, contemporary proposals, and new scenic formats. Among its strategic objectives, the association remains committed to the recovery and dissemination of Basque musical heritage, both through the review of historical scores and its concert programming.
