The Errenteria City Council will modify the TAO (Vehicle Parking Fee) regulations starting next September 1st, aiming to facilitate parking and increase vehicle turnover in two areas of the municipality. The changes will primarily affect Zone 2 of Iztieta-Ondartxo-Altzate and the 44 parking spaces in Miguel Irastorza Square.
The operating hours for Zone 2 of Iztieta-Ondartxo-Altzate will be extended. From September 1st, TAO will be active continuously from Monday at 00:00 to Saturday at 14:00. There will be no TAO service on Sundays and public holidays. The goal is to prevent long-term parking occupancy and prioritize parking for residents in the area.
Additionally, the 44 parking spaces in Miguel Irastorza Square, previously only for night use, will be integrated into the TAO system. Specifically, they will become part of Zone 6, sharing the same hours as the aforementioned zone: from Monday at 00:00 to Saturday at 14:00, with no TAO service on Sundays and holidays. Vehicles authorized for any TAO zone in the municipality, including rural ones, will be able to park in this area.
Furthermore, residents from specific buildings on Miguel Zabaleta street and Galtzaraborda Avenue will be able to apply for a Zone 6 permit to park in this area. These new parking spaces also include one reserved for people with reduced mobility and two for motorcycles.
These measures will come into effect on September 1, 2026, after signage is updated and information is disseminated. The City Council will evaluate their effectiveness and consider their potential expansion to other areas. These pilot measures are based on proposals received from neighborhood assemblies and associations, aiming to improve residential parking.
Finally, it is worth noting that since 2023, more than 250 new parking spaces have been created in the municipality, and steps are currently underway to begin construction of a new parking facility on Mártires de la Libertad street, which will offer 60 spaces.
