The Errenteria City Council has unveiled Azo!ka, a new initiative that reinforces its strategic commitment to craftsmanship as a cultural and economic engine, combining a professional meeting and a public fair.

The project features a dual program: a professional gathering scheduled for April 30, and a public fair to be held from May 1 to 3 at Merkatuzar. The initiative aims to achieve two main goals: improve the competitiveness of the craft sector and bring the value of craftsmanship closer to the public.
The professional meeting on April 30 at Agustinak Zentroa is designed as a space for reflection and dialogue on the sector's current state. It will include presentations and round tables addressing topics such as innovation, the transmission of trades, and future challenges. The craft fair, running from May 1 to 3 at Merkatuzar, will be open to all citizens, featuring sales stalls, live demonstrations, and participatory workshops. Registration for workshops will be available through the municipal website.

"Azo!ka represents “one more step” in the conception of craftsmanship, understood not only as a product, but as a collective heritage that is shared, lived, and projected into the future."

Aizpea Otaegi · Mayor of Errenteria
Additionally, the program includes an exhibition on the history of the Euskal Herria Craft Fair, organized by Ereintza Elkartea, which can be visited from April 20 to May 3 at Xenpelar Etxea and Foru Plaza. Mayor Aizpea Otaegi emphasized that Azo!ka views craftsmanship as a collective heritage and highlighted the municipality's long-standing commitment to this field, with 39 editions of the fair promoted by Ereintza Elkartea since 1979.
The project's name, Azo!ka, reflects this evolution, building on the traditional concept of “azoka” (market) while incorporating a contemporary dimension. Jone Idiazabal Garmendia, representing Ereintza Elkartea, noted that the historic fair has been a “place of encounter and transmission.” Esti Susperregi, director of Agustinak Zentroa, stressed the comprehensive nature of the project, blending tradition and contemporaneity. Amaia Arregi, Director General of Economic Promotion for the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, stated that initiatives like Azo!ka not only keep tradition alive but also project it into the future.
