The urban environment is becoming increasingly aggressive for both humans and biodiversity. Architects and urban planners face the significant challenge of finding a coherent and sustainable balance that preserves the city's essence while respecting nature.
We desire large green spaces for enjoyment and fresh, locally sourced food, even the possibility of home or rooftop gardens. To achieve these goals, pollinators are essential.
While modern architecture offers increasingly perfect construction from a building perspective, this proves detrimental to insects and animals. The construction of structures with airtight seals and no nooks makes it difficult for other insects and animals to inhabit built environments, especially when green spaces are limited.
It is in this context that the English company Green & Blue has developed the BEE BRICKS project. These bricks are designed to provide a home for solitary bees without compromising architectural aesthetics.
