The precautionary confinement for residents near the Port of Pasaia has been lifted after Public Health confirmed normal air quality measurements following an industrial fire.

A fire broke out this morning at a scrapyard in the Port of Pasaia, primarily involving cars and batteries. Due to potential smoke impact on the population, emergency services issued a confinement order, particularly for residents of Lezo, via an ES-Alert.
Following air quality measurements conducted by Public Health, readings have returned to normal levels. Consequently, a new ES-Alert has been sent to the public announcing the end of the preventive confinement: 'Shelter-in-place restrictions due to the industrial fire at the Port of Pasaia have been lifted. Residents may resume normal activities.'
The fire is now almost entirely under control. Emergency services are continuing to spread out the scrap metal pile to ensure there are no remaining hot spots.
