The Bilateral Airport Body, formed by the Basque Government and the Spanish Central Government, has been officially constituted, with its primary task being to prepare proposals for the DORA3 document, enabling participation in the management of Basque airports.

The spokesperson and counselor for the Department of Governance, Digital Administration, and Self-Government, Maria Ubarretxena, announced today in an interview on Radio Euskadi that the Bilateral Airport Body has been officially established. This body is composed of four members from the Basque Government and four from the Spanish Central Government.
The counselor emphasized that, for the first time, the Basque Government will have the capacity to participate in decisions concerning Basque airports. The body's initial task will be to develop proposals for the DORA3 document, which governs airport planning and investments.

"Negotiations are long and complex, but we have achieved very relevant agreements so far, and significant steps have also been taken in Social Security matters with the transfer, for example, of contributory unemployment benefits, so we are not starting from scratch."

Furthermore, Ubarretxena indicated that negotiations regarding other pending competencies are ongoing with the respective ministries. Concerning ports, she advocated for bilateral negotiations and highlighted the strategic importance of the Port of Pasaia for Gipuzkoa.
Additionally, she announced the imminent approval of the Transparency Law in the Basque Parliament, which will include the creation of Gardena, the Basque transparency authority. The president of this authority will be appointed by the Basque Parliament itself, reinforcing Euskadi's commitment to good governance and transparency.
Finally, in light of the current global uncertainty and turbulent geopolitical context, the counselor stressed the Basque Government's commitment to a social and industrial shield to be prepared for any future developments.
