The Uretz bar-restaurant, which opened on August 12, 2025, with a one-year contract and an option for two more, will close its doors on July 26th. Despite having the option to extend the contract for two additional years, the management informed the City Council of their intention not to continue and requested not to extend the contract.
As explained by mayor Gari Iturbe, the City Council had the option to compel the continuation of Debatea until a new tender was issued. However, after listening to the association, it was decided not to apply this obligation.
The new tender process is underway, and a new feature has been included in the tender documents: a dining service for those over 65 will be offered from Monday to Friday.
In the meantime, some renovation works will be carried out at the establishment, such as installing panels to reduce echo, and it will remain closed until mid-September.
“"It is completely unacceptable that the service has to be closed for a month and a half."
The PNV municipal group disagreed with the City Government, and the PNV members consider it "completely unacceptable" that the service must remain closed for a month and a half.
