It has been nearly two years since a hole appeared on the Otadui park promenade, resulting from the collapse of a section of the retaining wall for the canal running alongside the sidewalk. Although the promenade is public, the canal and its retaining wall are privately owned by the company Hijos de Juan de Garay. Given the direct impact of the damage on the public pathway and the risk to citizen safety, the City Council and the company agreed to co-finance the repair works, following similar past cases.
The agreement for the payment of the works with Hijos de Juan de Garay was unanimously approved in the June Plenary session. The works, carried out by the company Ugarte for 33,572 euros, involved constructing a new reinforced concrete wall, replacing the previous one made of stone masonry of various sizes, bound with clay soil and a small amount of lime. The City Council also requested the company to analyze the overall stability of the wall, but the urgency to ensure public safety prompted the completion of the repair works, which have now concluded.
