The Oñati Council and the Prehistory group from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) will discuss today at the Local Government Board the collaboration agreement they renewed in 2024 for four years, which promotes archaeological and paleontological research and dissemination within the municipality.

Within the framework of the agreement, the UPV/EHU team researches the archaeological and paleontological sites of the Oñati municipality, valuing them and carrying out dissemination work. Last week, the Oñati University Archaeology Days were held at the Culture House, and excavation campaigns have been conducted in the Jaturabe IX cave in recent years. The Council allocates 12,000 euros to this agreement.
The team has submitted the action plan for 2026 to the Council, which will be reported at today's Local Government Board meeting. Additionally, two subsidy applications for youth emancipation and the financial statement and liquidation presented by the working group for the XXI Aloña ascent will be reviewed.
