The Laboratorium Museum in Bergara, in collaboration with the Biook association, is offering young people the chance to analyze their own DNA in a free workshop. Titled '¿Superdegustador o inmune al amargor?. Descubre qué dice tu ADN' (Super-taster or immune to bitterness? Discover what your DNA says), the event on July 14th aims to spark scientific interest among youth.
The workshop is designed for young people aged 14 to 20 registered in Gipuzkoa. Participants will investigate through DNA how small genetic variations can influence their ability to perceive certain tastes. 'The course aims to bring biotechnology closer to new generations and awaken scientific vocations through a practical and participatory experience,' states Rosa Errazkin, the museum's director. 'Organizing workshops like this allows us to offer young people top-tier scientific experiences'.
The experimentation will take place on July 14th from 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM at the Laboratorium Museum, with 10 available spots. Registration must be completed via the museum's website using the provided form. The activity will be conducted primarily in Euskera, although Spanish and English will also be used.
Ricardo Mutuberria, founder and director of Biook Elkartea and the company BiookLab, emphasizes their goal of providing early opportunities to experiment with science. 'For many years, molecular biology was only accessible at university level. We want any young person to be able to discover early on if science could be their vocation,' he highlights.
