The Bergara City Council and Taun Taun Teatroa present the 18th International Puppet Show for Adults. Held every two years since 1991, this event aims to break the stereotype that puppets are only for children and to fill the void of object theatre for adult audiences.
This year's edition will offer a mosaic of emotions, disciplines, and scenic languages, transforming squares, halls, and alternative spaces into meeting points. Large-scale street theatre and contemporary circus will merge with the lyricism of objects and committed art, serving as a tool for resistance.
La Fam Teatre will bring the giant articulated puppet Achilles, over four meters tall, which will traverse the town. From Zurrunka Teatro, the show Pulcinella Txio-Txinela will set a vibrant rhythm in the squares, adapting the classic tradition of Pulcinella to contemporary reflections, accompanied by live music. The company Bitsa, with its proposal Haritik tiraka, will fuse theatre and street music to recover the daily memories of the residents.
In more intimate formats, artist Estefanía de Paz Asín will welcome the audience in her caravan with the play Olvido Flores, a tribute to historical memory and circus. In the hall, the mastery of manipulation will be showcased in Javier Aranda's acclaimed work Saeta. La Maquiné will open the doors to their award-winning play Estación Paraíso, and Rauxa Cía will present contemporary circus in Anónimos.
Beyond the usual stages, Rauxa Cia will present the exhibition Wind and Soul, a unique visual experience where puppets will break free from their strings and regain life and movement autonomously, powered by the wind. At the Kartzela Zaharra (Old Prison) venue, the Palestinian company Tantura will share their testimony, demonstrating how puppets can be a powerful tool for resilience in the face of adversity.
