The Memoria collective in Eskoriatza has launched two new initiatives aimed at recovering and disseminating local historical memory, with a particular focus on the Civil War, Francoist repression, and the forced migration processes linked to this context.

The first event is a conference titled 'War, Francoist Repression, and Migration. The Morales de Toro (Zamora) Case', to be held this Tuesday, June 16th, at 6:30 PM in the Ibarraundi museum in Eskoriatza.
The lecture will be delivered by José María Del Palacio Alonso, a retired technician from the Mondragon cooperatives and son of forced emigrants, who is also an author of several works on historical memory.
The analysis presented will argue that emigration during the Franco regime was driven not only by economic factors but also by political persecution and social stigma, highlighting how industrial areas of Euskal Herria became destinations for repressed families seeking anonymity and new opportunities.

"A algunas se les hacía insoportable el ambiente en el que tenían que vivir en sus pueblos, bien por haber perdido a sus familiares y ser señaladas como familias de rojos, bien al no contar con opciones para tener una vida digna"

The film 'El 47', which depicts the experiences of individuals displaced by political violence, will also be referenced as a cultural touchstone.
The second initiative is a campaign to collect testimonies, photographs, and documents related to the conflict and the Franco era, aiming to preserve and build the collective memory of the municipality. Information booths will be set up for citizens to participate.
