With the collaboration of the Bergara City Council and BEART Bergara Artists Association, the 51st Simon Arrieta Painting Competition will be held on Sunday, September 13th. This open-air event is a benchmark cultural appointment aiming to attract artists from the Basque Country and internationally.
The competition is open to anyone wishing to participate with a single artwork. The work must be created in Bergara within an area designated by the organizers, with complete freedom in technique and subject matter.
Supports will be stamped at the Santa Marina arcades between 08:30 and 11:00 AM. Afterward, artists will have the entire morning to create their pieces, which must be submitted between 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM at the Bergara Market, in Oxirondo Square.
A specialized jury will select the best works, and their decision will be announced at 3:00 PM in the Oxirondo venue, along with the award ceremony. Following this, a small snack will be offered to all participants.
This year's edition will award the following prizes: 1,000 euros for the first prize, 600 euros for the second, 400 euros for the third, and 250 euros for the best local artist.
An exhibition featuring the submitted works will be organized at the Aroztegi hall from September 18th to 27th, offering citizens and art enthusiasts the chance to view the creations up close.
With over half a century of history, the Simon Arrieta Competition is one of the municipality's most robust cultural traditions, continuing to attract numerous creators each year.
