The recent boom in cesta punta has spurred a new competition, the Challengers Tour circuit, which will feature Zumaia's own Cosme Agirre and Unai Uranga.

Thanks to the Jai Alai league and its associated tournaments, cesta punta has experienced a notable resurgence. As a further step in this revitalization, a circuit named the Challengers Tour has been established. This circuit will feature players on the verge of competing in top-tier championships, including Cosme Agirre and Unai Uranga from Zumaia.
A total of 24 pelotaris will compete in the Challengers Tour; twelve of them will hail from Southern Basque Country, and the remaining twelve from the French Basque Country and France. The circuit will comprise twelve tournaments, all structured as semifinals and finals. Based on accumulated points, the top eight pelotaris will earn a chance to participate in the final tournament scheduled for August in Hossegor. For Agirre and Uranga, their circuit debut will be in Durango on July 4th.
The Tour will have nine venues, with Aitzuri in Zumaia being one of them. The Zumaia event is set to take place at the end of July. Specifically, the semifinals will be played on July 27th, followed by the finals three days later, on the 30th. This arrangement offers Agirre and Uranga the opportunity to compete amongst their local peers.
The matches scheduled for July 27th are as follows: the pair Cosme-Betelu will face Benetrix-Latry, and Arrasate-Iturralde will compete against Bonnin-Uranga.
