Blood donation numbers typically decrease annually during summer holidays, but the need in hospitals remains constant. In response, the blood donors association of the Deba valley organizes special appeals, with this year's main objective being to collect 5,000 donations in 20 days. Alaitz Zubiaurre, the association's representative, emphasized that the demand for blood does not cease, even during vacation periods.
Zubiaurre has reminded people of the importance of donating blood throughout the year, not just during special campaigns. "If more people donated throughout the year, special appeals wouldn't be necessary," she stated. She stressed the significance of blood donation, "because anyone could need it at any moment."
Regarding the Debagoiena region, approximately 7% of the population donates blood. The association encourages the rest of the population to participate in upcoming donation drives.
