The construction of the Errezabal residence in Elgoibar is currently suspended due to landslide problems. The movement of numerous trucks carrying earth, a consequence of measures taken to address this issue, has generated unease and questions, particularly among residents of the Urazandi neighborhood where the care center will be built.
EH Bildu has accused the Elgoibar City Council of failing to fulfill its commitment to keep both opposition groups and residents informed. The party claims that specific data, promised after the suspension of the construction works, has not been provided.
In response, the City Council has announced a meeting with Urazandi residents and representatives from the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council for June 30th at the main hall of Aita Agirre. Prior to this, a meeting will be held with all municipal political groups to offer explanations regarding the current and future status of the works.
Mayor Maialen Gurrutxaga emphasized the significance of a project like Errezabal for Elgoibar and the importance of keeping citizens, especially the residents of Urazandi, informed. "Once the necessary information is gathered, we will clearly explain our current position and what comes next. We have analyzed technical reports and worked with specialized geologists to identify all the tasks that need to be performed. Our goal is to present guarantees and solutions to the residents, informing them about the work we are undertaking with full responsibility and commitment, and listening to their concerns," she stated.
However, EH Bildu believes that the governing team of the Elgoibar City Council is not adequately informing the public or the opposition parties. The party asserts that the commitment to keep citizens informed is not being met, despite various incidents that have occurred, including water spills onto the main road, cracks on the road and sidewalks, movements in some houses, and the filling of the plot with tons of earth.
EH Bildu indicates that their requests for information to understand the scope of the problem have been met with data they describe as "partial, deficient, and, in many cases, late." As an example, they cite a request for information made by the City Council to the company executing the works on May 22nd, which "still lacks a response, despite being given a 15-day deadline to do so."
The party also recalls the agreement from the plenary session last March, which approved demanding monthly information from the company regarding the measurement systems for the stability of walls and slopes.
"After three months, we lack this information and do not know the steps being taken, beyond observing the movement of trucks emptying tons of earth onto the plot, supposedly to support the slope, which generates rumors that deserve answers that are not being provided," they added.
