This year, Mutriku's Book Month will offer a more extensive program, running from April 16 to 30. In addition to the usual literary events, highlights include visits from three writers, an exhibition, and a musical performance.
One of the main events will be the “Karteletrak” exhibition, on display at the Zabiel cultural center from April 16 to 30. The opening ceremony will take place on April 16 at 18:00, featuring writer Joseba Sarrionandia, who played a significant role in the exhibition's organization and coordination.
The exhibition showcases the palindromes of creator Markos Gimeno (Ermua, 1974 – Eibar, 2018), as well as posters created by various artists to illustrate them. Gimeno possessed an exceptional ability to create words or phrases that read the same forwards and backward. Sarrionandia himself published the book “Markos Gimenoren 101 letrakartel”, helping to disseminate and value the author's work.
The exhibition will remain open until April 30, from 11:00 to 13:00 and 18:00 to 20:00 on weekdays, and from 12:00 to 14:00 on weekends.
In connection with the exhibition, on April 24 at 19:00, Mursego will offer the concert “Sukramarkus: Markos Gimenoren palindromoen berrirakurketa librea” at the Zabiel cultural center. This performance proposes a fusion of literature, visual arts, and music. Tickets, priced at 3 euros, can be purchased from April 14 on the www.mutriku.eus website or at the Tourism office.
Furthermore, on April 18, coinciding with the Merkatu Txikia, Onintza Enbeita will be in Mutriku to present her book “Bizitza baten txatalak” at 12:30 in Beheko plaza. This work narrates the life of Feli Madariaga, offering the testimony of a woman closely linked to the farmhouse and the land, as a reflection of a disappearing way of life.
On April 23, International Book Day, the library will host the musical storytelling session “Habiko ipuinak” for children, led by storyteller Amaia Elizagoien and musician Itziar Olague.
To conclude the month's program, on April 28 from 18:00 onwards, writer Katixa Agirre will present her latest novel, “Barne Zerbitzuak”, at the library. The work transports the reader to the harsh years of 1937-1943, recounting the story of brave women who were part of the “Araba sarea” espionage network, risking their lives to save many others.
Following the presentation, the awards for the IX Ziriako Andonegi Micro-story Contest will be distributed.
Additionally, a raffle will be held among library users from April 1 to 29. The draw will take place on April 30 at 17:30 at the library itself, with prizes distributed by age group: a set of books for children aged 0-6, another set for 7-12 year olds, a tablet for 13-25 year olds, and an e-reader for those over 26.
