An athlete from Laudio, at 50 years old, has achieved very positive results in the World Cross Country Tour, one of the most important global circuits, ranking 75th.

The athlete has given a very positive assessment of his performance, considering his age, and has highlighted that Basque runners have great opportunities to achieve good results in this international competition. The World Cross Country Tour consists of 27 races worldwide, most of them located in Europe.
For a race to be scoring in this circuit, organizers must ensure the participation of world-class runners, which often involves paying their fees. In Euskal Herria, there are four scoring races: two gold category (Zornotza and Elgoibar) and two silver category (Amurrio and Donostia).
The Laudio athlete has participated in three of these events: Amurrio, Zornotza, and Elgoibar. In the latter two, there is a specific rule: if the first-place finisher laps other runners, those runners do not score points. This presents a significant challenge for non-professional athletes. The runner has particularly praised his performance in Elgoibar, due to the difficulty of the course.
This is the second time this athlete has placed among the top 100 in the World Cross Country Tour. Last year, he finished 97th, but was unaware of the result until the president of his club informed him. Consequently, this season he has consciously competed in the circuit to improve his mark. Furthermore, he has also won the Euskadi Cross League in the Master 50 category.
His passion for sports is not a coincidence, as his parents were founding members of the Laudio Atletismo Kluba from its inception. His mother, Loli Ruiz Solaun, participated in the Donostia International Cross in the 1980s, a time when very few women practiced sports.
