The Ertzaintza's Internal Affairs Department has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding an arrest in Elgoibar, which resulted in the detainee being transferred to a hospital.

The Ertzaintza has commenced an internal investigation to clarify the events surrounding the arrest and subsequent transfer of a detainee to a hospital.
The incident is linked to an alleged sexual assault within the context of gender-based violence, which occurred last Sunday in Donostia. A 29-year-old man was arrested in Elgoibar early this morning as the suspected perpetrator.
The victim, a 32-year-old Spanish woman, filed a complaint on Monday at the Ertzain-etxea in the capital of Gipuzkoa. According to the Basque Department of Security, the alleged assailant was arrested in Elgoibar and taken to police facilities.
While in police custody, the detainee experienced a change in his health condition, necessitating his transfer to a hospital for medical attention. As these events transpired within an Ertzain-etxea, the Internal Affairs Command has launched an investigation.
Furthermore, the Department of Security has referred the matter to the Control and Transparency Commission of the Basque Country Police, and the Security Counselor has requested an appearance before the Institutions, Public Governance, and Security Commission of the Basque Parliament.
