Elgoibar will serve as the venue for the eighth youth handball tournament in the Basque Country on September 5th and 6th. Over 300 young players, in the cadet category, will compete in the eighth edition of the tournament. According to officials from the Sanlo Handball Sports Club, this event, a staple in the sports calendar, is organized in tribute to a club reference and a Montenegrin player and coach they still "keep in mind", Gojko Vučinić.
"For two days, Elgoibar will have the opportunity to enjoy the best grassroots handball, promoting the values of sport and remembering the figure of Gojko Vučinić", stated the organizers.
Sixteen teams, both male and female, will participate in the tournament. Ten of them will represent sports clubs from Gipuzkoa, Bizkaia, and Navarra. The matches for the girls' teams will be played at the Olaizaga court, while the boys' matches will take place at the IMH sports center.
This year, the championship has been condensed to just two days. On Saturday, September 5th, competitions will begin at 09:30 and continue in the afternoon from 16:00 to 19:15. On Sunday, September 6th, matches will start at 09:00 and will run throughout the morning, concluding at 12:45 with the games that will determine the final standings. The closing ceremony and awards presentation will be held at 13:45 at the Olaizaga Sports Center.
In the last two editions, the youth handball teams from Pulpo de Zumaia emerged victorious in this championship.
